St. Paul the Apostle School

Honor Roll Description

We are committed to the development of the child:

...by nurturing with love and care the Christ-Life which already exists within the child

...by fostering the skills needed for life-long learning and calling forth from each child the God-given gifts of heart, mind and body".

Our report cards and grading system are tools for monitoring the progress of our students. Conferences provide an even better means for sharing how well our children are doing in their studies. We believe this communication will benefit the home and school by supporting our common goal as stated in the Statement of Philosophy above.

Students in grades six, seven and eight will be eligible for membership in the Honor Roll. Student membership is first based upon conduct, behavior, and effort in all subjects and then academic grades earned in these core subject areas: Religion, Social Studies, English, Reading, Spelling, Math, Science, and Spanish.

Cooperation

The "Cooperation" category of the honor roll rewards students whose effort and

conduct were very good.

Criteria: 1’s and 2’s in both Work Habits, Social Development, Conduct and Effort.

Honors

The "Honors" category of the honor roll rewards students who have earned very good grades and have met the Cooperation criteria.

Criteria: All A's and B's and no more than one C in all eight core subject areas.

Merit

The "Merit" category of the honor roll rewards students who have earned excellent grades and have met all the Cooperation criteria.

Criteria: A's and B's in all eight core subject areas, with at least six A's.

As our students continue to grow and mature toward self-motivation and inner satisfaction for doing their work well and behave in a cooperative manner, we find the Honor Roll designations will also provide motivation for success. Students named to the Honor Roll in any one of the three categories for performance in at least one of the first three marking periods of the school year are invited to Honors Night Potluck. This is an evening reserved for those students who have worked very hard in both their grades, effort, and in their cooperation.
